Solution focused hypnotherapy is a goal focused and evidence based therapy which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices with hypnosis. We focus on change by creating solutions, meaning we don’t dwell on past problems. This enables you to make positive changes in a relatively short period of time. Research has shown that solution focused hypnotherapy is effective for many common issues including anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), depression, phobias and weight loss.
The therapy utilises hypnotic trance which is a natural state that we enter into several times a day. Think of when you’ve been absorbed in a book or a time when you’ve driven a familiar route and not remembered the journey afterwards. This is a form of trance.
Clinical hypnotherapy takes advantage of this trance state to access the subconscious mind for therapeutic purposes. By accessing the subconscious you can tap into a wide resource of potential and knowledge to find solutions and achieve your goals.
You are in control at all times during a clinical hypnotherapy session and can’t be made to do anything that you don’t want to. You will be in a safe environment and aware of your surroundings. Plus, hypnosis in itself is very relaxing so you will leave each session with a feeling of calm.
A course of solution focused hypnotherapy will be around 4-8 sessions. As we are all different, you may require more sessions and this is something we evaluate together throughout the treatment.
The journey starts with an initial consultation where we will discuss what you would like to achieve. Then each hypnotherapy session lasts around 50-60 minutes and will typically be held on a weekly basis. (With the exception of smoking cessation which is a one off 2 hour session).
